The UK Information Commissioner (ICO) has just issued a consultation on its new, draft, guidance on dealing with subject access requests (see here) under the GDPR. The GDPR has strengthened the right of data subjects to request a copy of their personal data processed by a data controller, and to request further information about how the controller processes their personal data and shares it with third parties. We are aware that some members have experienced problems in dealing with such requests and that the number of such requests (including many that are not allowable) has increased since the GDPR came into force in 2018. We are therefore very keen that the ICO should understand the problems encountered by and the concerns of ICAEW members and reflect this in their new guidance.
Members can either complete the online survey themselves (see here by 12 February 2020 ) or submit their comments to firstname.lastname@example.org ( by 1 February 2020) for inclusion in an ICAEW response on behalf of members.
