The Tax Faculty is delighted to announce that Paul Johnson, director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, will deliver the Hardman lecture on 30 October 2019 at Chartered Accountants’ Hall.
In his lecture, Paul will set out some of the great challenges facing the UK over the next decade and more, and how the tax system can help us in addressing them, and what its limits are. Whether it be addressing inequalities, enabling devolution, enhancing productivity, tackling climate change or paying for an ageing population, tax policy will need to play a prominent role. He will argue that our current tax system is not well designed to address these challenges. We need to develop a coherent vision for its role alongside that of other policies, and quickly, if we are to avoid some of the big social and economic problems we are currently storing up.
Places are strictly limited and we expect that the lecture will prove very popular, so we recommend that you book early.
