Dates of birth on self assessment tax returns are used by HMRC to update at least 16 different systems. An incorrect date of birth can affect state pension records, the ability of clients to get through security when phoning HMRC and access to digital tax accounts.
HMRC has told the Tax Faculty that there has been a spike in the number of returns submitted by agents with incorrect dates of birth and we have been asked to remind members to check that dates of birth on self assessment returns are correct.
