Listen again to the Tax Faculty’s webinar on offshore compliance

Expert John Cassidy explains what all agents need to know

The Tax Faculty’s latest webinar was on Thursday 19 May, on the theme offshore tax compliance.

If you missed it on the day, faculty members can listen to the recording and download the slides at Compliance and disclosure: the new offshore landscape

Presenter John Cassidy is an experienced tax investigations expert, a partner at Crowe Clark Whitehill and deputy chairman of the Tax Faculty’s Enquiries & Appeals Committee. He explained the latest developments in this area, both in the UK and in the international arena, and what agents need to know.

Among other topics, John considered the leaked Panama papers and that any clients with undeclared UK tax need to come clean now rather than wait for HMRC to examine the records and contact them.

He also explained the Common Reporting Standard, which means that quantities of offshore information will soon be on its way to HMRC, and the requirement imposed by Finance Act 2015 for advisers to write to clients about offshore arrangements, sanctions and disclosure opportunities. On this latter requirement, ICAEW will be providing guidance for members, as soon as HMRC has published its own rules and guidance.
